Position Overview
The Veteran’s Services Coordinator acts as a liaison for the Cleveland County Veterans. As the liaison, the employee will put veterans in contact with an agency or person that can help assist them in receiving the available benefits they have earned. Provides quality advocacy for all U.S. Veterans and their dependents and survivors through benefit counseling and programs, claims, and outreach services; and responds to the needs of Cleveland County Veterans, service members, their dependents and survivors, and works with other support services to provide linkage to Veteran concerns.

Compensation
- $61,205.00
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Include the following, but are not limited to:
- Meets with Veterans and/or dependents concerning needs and eligibility for assistance through individual calls or in person.
- Works with the Criminal Justice system and Legislators to provide linkage for Veterans to different agencies within Cleveland County.
- Directs clients to agencies in the community who may be able to provide additional assistance.
- Meets with Legislators to discuss issues concerning Veterans' needs and suggestions for improved services.
- Interprets relevant laws to applicants and directs them to proper authorities.
- Interpret and explain written material and laws to veterans and dependents.
- Develop and maintain the budget for Veterans Services.
- Travel and speak with civic groups, clubs, and concerned groups to provide knowledge and information about Veterans services and available benefits.
- Determine primary eligibility and prepare claims for service-connected disabilities; compose letters with all pertinent facts for the same.
- Research grant opportunities, collect data, and write grants for additional funding for Veterans services.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of current laws relating to benefits for Veterans and their dependents, programs and activities of state, federal and other agencies rendering services to Veterans and their dependents.
- Knowledge of budget preparation and control.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision; ability to work from verbal and written instructions and work orders.
- Ability to give clear verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to concentrate and pay attention to detail.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals, groups, and related organizations.
- Ability to make decisions and take appropriate actions. Ability to meet schedules and deadlines of the work area. Ability to perform mathematical calculations.

- Ability to communicate effectively, tactfully, and professionally with Veterans and their dependents and maintain confidentiality.

Minimum Qualifications
- Education and/or experience to a Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of experience in a social service environment with considerable public contact in a professional environment; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and experience. Military background preferred.
- A valid Oklahoma driver’s license with a satisfactory motor vehicle record is required.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Physical Demands: The employee may be required to use standard office equipment and spend long hours sitting, walking, or standing. The employee is required to talk and listen. The employee will occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Noise level is minor to moderate depending on location of work performed.
- Working Conditions: Primary work environment conducted in an office setting. Travel to various service organizations and locations outside of the main office will be necessary to meet with Veterans, dependents, agencies, and other service providers. Work days are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. unless the employee is required to work beyond standard business hours.
- Supervision Exercised: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
- Safety: The employee shall be knowledgeable and follow Cleveland County’s safety policies and procedures. The employee must immediately report any accidents, unusual occurrences, or any other safety-related issues to his/her supervisor.
